If Stones Had Tongues
If Stones should find a tongue,
What would they say to me?
Would they deliver sermons
About tranquility?
I think that being tranquil
Is more than being still,
And so I think their silence
Is not of their free will.
Although stones seem to stay
As in a solemn trance,
I understand their atoms
Perpetually dance.
And so if stones had tongues,
I would not think it strange
If they gave learned lectures
About the joys of change.

Ever since I slipped to livin' under the Rock, in places like Devil's Dip and La Chateau Tento, I have undertaken a somewhat Spiritual type journey, as most of you are aware. The womanising, hard drinkin' fast livin risk takin person once we were is no more. Along with the feelin sorry for myself blues I went lookin and found Someone Out-There who lived inside me. I called him Mister Someone Out-There. MSOT helped me find Upper Case ME who lived inside me. I'm sure you got the drift.
Anyway, along with the search for meaning and stuff, finding the Upper Case and generally trying to become a better person, I have taken on some new strategies to try and get better-ererer. Stuff like meditation. And it works. Along with the meditation I have learned to relax, become more peaceful and calm within myself ....... as you do. No more going 'off' like a frog in a sock. Nuh. Uh Uh. No more. Peeeeeeace brother, Breeeeathe sister........

I have studied a lot of our different cultures and religions and have become particularly interested in the teachings of the Eastern sages, and the beliefs of the early mystics. Some of the Buddhist philosophy, particularly Zen, is pretty much common sense, you know, living a virtuous lifestyle and all that sorta stuff. It helps if you are trying to find out about yourself. It helps when you begin to search for the Upper Case ME. In my 'case' the search for ME has worked in well with my total re-invention. Changing EVERYTHING, particularly your work environment, career aspirations, whole of life outlook ..... well, it doesn't happen overnight. And then you have to deal with the contradictions, the thingies that don't make much sense. Even though I have adopted many of the traditions of our mystics, a fanatic I am not..........

One of the things I am trying NOT to do is be judgemental. Old out the door, new ME enter. Yep. Peeeeace, Caaaaalm. Luuuurve ......
But then I see what's goin' down overseas and the confusion sets in. Mmmm Hmmm....
I see these 'men of the cloth', you know big beards with long dirty white nighties. Many are considered Holy men, which I think is commendable. But a lot of them seem to follow strange practices of peace, like blowing us up for instance. Sometimes they even blow themselves up to become martyrs and get all the fringe benefits of martyrdom. Now I'm sure they have good reason, like not liking us weee Westrners very much, but again.... well, who am I to judge?
Then there's the women. A lot of them over there wear those 'Burqa' thingies. In a lot of ways I think they are a great idea, especially when there's a lot of cold and flu germs in the air. Then there's the not letting the men see them until their wedding nights. I mean, how wonderfully non-judgemental is that. It doesn't always work of course. Some of them get a bit upset about drawing the short straw. And that's why the men have the contingency plan. You know, the seven virgins after they blow themselves up. I mean some of them react pretty badly when they slip the Burqa off, and so they try to fasten the arrival of the virgins. Many resort to acts of terror because they have been confronted with the same emotion when pulling the Burqa off. So be non judgemental and try to use a bit of empathy......
LIFE is what it is.
